The World’s Top 5 Most Extravagant Private Jet Interiors

If you’re looking to splurge on a private aircraft, or are thinking about what kind of interiors you’d like for your next private jet hire, we have some of the finest inspiration for you. These aircraft are some of the most extravagant and heavily customized on the planet, with everything from self-defence systems to fully equipped gyms.

So, fasten your seatbelts and put your chairs in the upright position, because we’re about to dive in.

1. US President Joe Biden’s Boeing 747-200Bs

Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States, is now the proud owner of two identical Boeing 747-200B planes, referred to as Air Force One (though they are soon going to be replaced by two Boeing 747-8i aircraft, with the upgrade of the private jets costing an estimated $5.3 billion). These famous aircraft have been heavily customised for maximum security, owing to their official deployment by a succession of US presidents for more than 25 years. Up-to-date features include protection against attacks, electromagnetic pulses and secure communication channels (though rumours abound that the upgraded fleet will be missing a few of these key features, despite the massive price tag).

Each jet is 70m long and boasts a large cabin with space for 70 passengers and 26 crew members, including President Biden’s staff. The jets are fitted with a private bedroom and bathroom, as well as a lavish gym, office and even a medical suite with an operating room. They were originally decorated in an ‘American Southwest’ style by former presidential wife Nancy Reagan, but this look has since been updated.

2. Mark Wahlberg and Elton John’s Bombardier Global Express jets

Stars and business moguls including Mark Wahlberg and Elton John have their own customised Bombardier Global Express private jets. These planes have sumptuous leather and wood veneer interiors, with luxury bathrooms, entertainment systems and first-class recliner seats. The Bombardiers can fit up to 19 guests on board, and are powered by twin Rolls-Royce BR710 engines. These private jets cost between $50 million and $75 million to buy, and up to $7,675 per hour for private plane charter.

Bombardier’s newest business jet model, the Global 8000, is its most impressive yet, with a 7,900-nautical-mile range and space for 17 passengers. The jet has one of the fastest internet connections in aviation, super-large windows and en-suite bathrooms with stand-up showers. Clients can request various cabin figurations, from meeting and dining rooms to lounges, with wall-mounted TVs, ergonomically adjustable executive seats and galleys with cooking facilities.

3. HNA Group’s Boeing 787-8 BBJ

Boeing Dreamliners have been popular as passenger aircraft since 2009 for their range, comfort, fuel efficiency and high-performance, composite bodies. However, in 2016, China’s HNA Group bought the first private Dreamliner. Designed by Stephen Vella, CEO of Kestrel Aviation Management, the 2,400sq ft interior was custom-made with a master suite complete with sound proofing, king-sized bed, walk-in closet and dressing room, as well as an en-suite bathroom with double shower and marble heated floors.

The Dreamliner can accommodate 40 passengers and has a range of almost 9,800 miles, meaning it can fly practically anywhere in the world in under 17 hours. The interior took more than two years to complete. It boasts five bathrooms, a spacious main lounge with day beds and 55-inch flat-screen TV, meeting area, and guest cabin with 18 first-class sleeper seats. The Dreamliner costs $239 million, and is used by HNA Group’s chairman and high-end charter customers, as well as for luxury air-travel services.

Based on the Embraer E190 regional airliner, this $49.9 million model was designed with travelling royals and politicians in mind, and has five cabin zones that can be designed in various styles and configurations. Top features include master bedrooms with large beds and walk-in showers, living rooms and bars. The jet has a range of 4,600 nautical miles and designer Jay Beever created a choice of five quirky themes for the Lineage 1000E.

Skyacht One takes nautical inspiration from superyachts, with mahogany, brass, wood and leather décor. The Kyoto Airship has floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views, while SkyRanch One is based on the Wild West with bleached woods, horn trimming and saddle-stitched leather. The Manhattan is inspired by the art and architecture of 1930s Manhattan with a jewel-coloured interior. Finally, the Hollywood model pays homage to vintage Tinseltown with an art-deco bar and gold-toned bar stools.

The best of the rest

The rich and famous regularly whizz around the world in private planes for holidays, functions and events. Here are a few more of the most impressive:

  • Queen Elizabeth II – The British monarch is transported to events by the UK’s 32nd Squadron of the Royal Air Force in a fleet of planes worth $106.2 million. She also has a personal Sikorsky S-76 Spirit helicopter that belongs to the royal household.
  • Jay Z – The music mogul has a $38.7 million Bombardier Challenger 850 with a kitchen, living room, bedroom and two bathrooms. His superstar wife Beyoncé bought the jet as a Father’s Day present from their daughter, Blue Ivy.
  • Alisher Usmanov – The Uzbekistan-born businessman owns the biggest business jet in the Russian Federation: a $370 million Airbus A340-300.
  • John Travolta – The Hollywood heavyweight has a private pilot’s licence and owns seven planes, including a Boeing 707 and 727, a Bombardier Challenger 601 and three Gulfstreams. The actor even has an aeroplane hangar attached to his home in Florida.
  • Vladimir Putin – The Russian president has a fleet of 68 planes and 64 helicopters at his disposal. His flagship Ilyushin IL-96-300PU is worth $535 million, making it by far the highest single private plane cost on this list. The aircraft features neoclassical interior design with gold accents and tapestries, as well as an office, bedroom, gym and radar-jammers.
  • Jim Carrey – The award-winning film star has his own Gulfstream V worth $57 million, which can seat 16 passengers and travels at almost the speed of sound.

Some other popular private and executive jets with amazing interior options

  • Cessna Citation Longitude – This aircraft can seat up to 12 passengers in absolute comfort and style. The cabin area can fit amenities such as espresso machines and a microwave oven, and even has a walk-in baggage compartment. The Cessna Longitude will cost you around $26 million, and for that you get features such as a spacious bathroom, and 15 large windows that bring plenty of natural light into the cabin, which is lined with exceptionally comfortable armchairs.
  • Airbus – As one of the leading aircraft manufacturers, Airbus has a number of models available for purchase, which cost from about $71 million to more than $110 million. The price depends on the size and layout of the aircraft, but does not cover the outfitting of the cabin. These aircraft often feature some of the tallest and widest cabins available, and can have space for a separate conference or dining room, depending on the cabin design.
  • Gulfstream G650 – What does roughly $64 million get you in terms of luxury and style? A Gulfstream G650 with some fabulous bells and whistles inside. This aircraft boasts the widest and longest cabin of any private aircraft currently on the market, and that same spaciousness and beautiful design is found in the bathrooms, too. Plush lounge chairs that are fully reclinable line the cabin, and are stylish and comfortable. Bear in mind, though, that the price tag we mentioned is just for the bells and whistles: the jet itself will set you back about $358 million without any of the trim.
  • Boeing 747-8 VIP Bizjets – When you picture the ultimate executive jet, with best-in-class everything, you’re probably got something almost as ‘tricked out’ as the 747-8 VIP in mind. This aircraft is absolutely stunning and is a veritable palace in the sky! The 747-8 VIP offers passengers 4,786sq ft of space, with a stateroom, lounge, separate office, and dining room. All the interior components are hand-crafted and built in-house, and the master bedroom is so beautifully designed that you might end up sleeping through your whole flight. This would be a shame considering you’d have paid more than $563 million just to get some sleep at 43,000ft.
